Wow！ What a twist！ I didn’t expect to find out more about Lily’s story when book number one was finished。 But I am so glad that we were able to find out more of her captivity。 Families can sure be crazy， and the Visser’s were certainly no exception。 Quite a few twists along the way， Detective Kaylie never gives up and keeps working to find out the truth of what happens to the Garza’s。 Living in ND I love reading a book that is based here！

Do any of you all get butterflies in your stomach when you read？ Like you can’t settle them with every page you turn？ This is what happens every single time I read ANYTHING by Danielle Girard， and a reason why she will ALWAYS be one of my favorite authors。 This is only the 6th book I’ve read by her （don’t worry I’m still working on the backlist of earlier work） and as always Far Gone had me on the edge of my seat like I was on a roller coaster bout to go down the very first dip at high speed。 I Do any of you all get butterflies in your stomach when you read？ Like you can’t settle them with every page you turn？ This is what happens every single time I read ANYTHING by Danielle Girard， and a reason why she will ALWAYS be one of my favorite authors。 This is only the 6th book I’ve read by her （don’t worry I’m still working on the backlist of earlier work） and as always Far Gone had me on the edge of my seat like I was on a roller coaster bout to go down the very first dip at high speed。 I kept finding myself wanting more with each page turn， wanting to know how it was going to end。 Questioning how people connect with one another。 And by the end， everything came together wrapped up in a pretty bow。 Did I cry at a certain point？ Yes because I’m an emotional man and lose it on happy/sad moments。 Easily one of my favorite books of the year and I’m already anticipating the next book in this series。 I truly hope there is a next book in this series。 Congrats on book #15 🤗 。。。more

This was my first Danielle Girard but certainly won't be my last。 This was an interesting book in that I really did not guess the end about midway through the book。 Sometimes I guess and am wrong but I usually have a guess going。 This one kept making me change my mind。 I don't want to give anything away but there was one part of the story that I thought tested credibility but I know the mind can do strange things so it didn't make me think this is ridiculous but did leave a bit of doubt in my mi This was my first Danielle Girard but certainly won't be my last。 This was an interesting book in that I really did not guess the end about midway through the book。 Sometimes I guess and am wrong but I usually have a guess going。 This one kept making me change my mind。 I don't want to give anything away but there was one part of the story that I thought tested credibility but I know the mind can do strange things so it didn't make me think this is ridiculous but did leave a bit of doubt in my mind。They did not fully explain an incident from the past but I suspect future books will continue to make reference to that period of time。 I would certainly recommend investing the time to read 。。。more

A combination of #metoo and six degrees of separationAmazon and GoodReads have excellent synopses， so I’ll try to write a spoiler-free review， but it won’t be easy。 I breezed through this book， because I doubted author Danielle Girard would sneak in murder clues。 I liked Girard’s introduction of three very different POV characters。 Detective Kylie Milliard has a tough but sharp cop’s perspective。 As a crime fiction fan， I enjoyed following Kylie as she investigated the complex mystery。 Drug-addl A combination of #metoo and six degrees of separationAmazon and GoodReads have excellent synopses， so I’ll try to write a spoiler-free review， but it won’t be easy。 I breezed through this book， because I doubted author Danielle Girard would sneak in murder clues。 I liked Girard’s introduction of three very different POV characters。 Detective Kylie Milliard has a tough but sharp cop’s perspective。 As a crime fiction fan， I enjoyed following Kylie as she investigated the complex mystery。 Drug-addled Hannah Visser is a frightened teen on the run after witnessing murder。 Competent Lily Baker， veteran ED nurse with a complicated psychological history， is the book’s polestar。I ignored problems with police protocol & procedural issues; hospital access & behavioral issues inside; medical-related improbabilities & impossibilities; and any too obvious twists。 I was thinking: decent women’s drama w so-so police procedural。 Easy 3-3。5 stars。 That is， until I read chapters that literally made me cuss。 If I were reading a hard copy， I’d have stomped outside and set the book afire in the grill。 I had to stop reading， and then looked over the Amazon reviews。 I was shocked！ No one mentioned the distressing #metoo issue about a rape。 That’s one of the plot devices that drives the narrative 。 。 。 yet， few characters behave as though rape is unacceptable。 Other characters aren’t “concerned。” Or worse。 Much worse。 Here’s the topper: given the circumstances， the rape victim’s actions and responses are unbelievable。 Victim engages in fantastical medical heroics， leading to—SHAZAM！—magical outcomes。 The critically injured， nearly unconscious man speaks 。 。 。 coherently。 There’s more， but I’ll stop。 Two stars because part of this book is a decent read。 PSFor those who don’t mind spoilers， I recommend the excellent one star review on GoodReads。 It’s a “tap to view。” 。。。more

She did it again！ Danielle Gerard penned an easy to follow story with multiple characters that are interwoven into a fast paced mystery。 With this being the second in the series， you do not necessarily need to read the first， as there are only a few references to it in the current story。 It doesn’t hinder the reader from not understanding anything that is taking place currently。 I enjoyed the quick chapters with the multiple viewpoints as this helped to speed the story along。

I can confidently say the second book in the Badlands thriller series is every bit as ruthlessly captivating as the first。 I read FAR GONE in one sitting while gnawing my nails down to the quick。 Danielle Girard is a master of the contemporary thriller， and when it comes to dishing out action and emotional turmoil， she shows no mercy。 Fans of Meg Gardiner and Jamie Freveletti will love this compelling new series and the quick-witted female protagonists at its core。
